BUILDING A FOLDING SKIN ON FRAME KAYAK ON THE BANKS OF THE YUKON RIVER:

I started building this folding kayak while out at work on the Yukon river last summer, I ended up putting the skin on in Mark Fejes studio in Fairbanks in October and launching it in the slough behind the power plant after all the other water in the area was frozen.  The intention WAS to have a fun river boat when I was working in the summer and a second tender to the Drummer that could be stowed under a bunk while traveling in the winter.

There are complete plans for the kayak are available for free at: Yostwerks.com, an extremely well done website written and maintained by kayak designer Tom Yost.
I will also eventually be posting a page “homebuilt folding kayak” specifically about the process of building this kayak on a remote river, including descriptions of the processes, the things I learned, and my footnotes to Yost’s instructions. It will be on the “DIY Projects” page on this website.
